Spring FCWS Donations

The First Coast Women's Services had been so pleased with our first donation, that we wanted to make it a monthly habit. They said that 4 or 5 new women choose to keep their babies after coming throughthe facility each month, and we volunteered to keep up with that number.

April-

In April, we experimented with granny squares. This type of blankets is light and airy, great for the hot and humid spring time we have here in Florida. We made them with all types of colors and textures and had a lot of fun in the process.

May-

In May, we decided to give 4 baby sweaters, and we had chosen a pattern written by Elizabeth Zimmerman. EZ, as the knitting community calls her, is famous for her simple way of explaining techniques that would usually be dreaded. We had heard about her from many knitters on Ravelry and in our knitting group, so we decided to purchase the pattern for the "Baby Surprise Jacket" or "BSJ".

We made our first BSJ in January in a self striping yarn that worked out very well. After that, we were hooked. We bought 3 more colorways of this particular yarn and got to work. Of course, there were interruptions in between, but we seamed on the last button in May.

June-

We've been working on a set of blankets to give for June. They are made with classic baby colors, pastels of blue, pink, yellow, and green. We are also making baby booties to match :)
All of the blankets are finished except green, and we only have yellow and green booties to go.

The progressing sets are simply adorable!
